Rice Krispie Treats
This dessert came into popularity about the same time I started taking an interest in cooking and talking on the phone. Once I started a batch just before Mary Erickson or Mary Hadley called. While the marshmallows and butter melted in a pot on the stove, I yakked on the phone, sitting on the floor between the kitchen and dining room, paying no attention whatsoever to the melting marshmallows. They burned so badly it took about a week of soaking before I could pry the mess out of the pot.
In a large pot, melt 1/4 cup butter over low heat
Add 1/2 pound marshmallows, stir till melted
Add a dash of salt
Pour in 3 cups Rice Krispies Mix all together, pat into a buttered 9 inch square pan.
We usually doubled this recipe and put it in a 9 x 13 inch pan.
