Buttery Bubble Bread

1 package yeast

1 cup warm water

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1/2 tsp. salt

4-4 1/2 cups flour, divided

6 T. butter or margarine, melted

In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar, shortening, egg, salt and 1 cup flour. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough. Turn onto a floured surface, knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour. Punch dough down. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; shape into 1 1/2 inch balls. Dip balls into melted butter and arrange evenly in a greased 9 inch tube pan. Drizzle with remaining butter. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes. Bake a 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes, until golden brown. Cool 5 minutes, invert onto serving platter. Serve warm.
