Sloppy Joes

This is not, unfortunately, the same recipe as Marie Whitaker’s from the Sloppy Joe lunches at Cathedral High School. That recipe undoubtedly died with her.

1 pound ground beef

1 large onion, chopped

1/2 cup ketchup

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce

2 stalks celery, chopped

Put ground beef and onion into a large skillet, break meat up into small chunks. Brown over medium heat, drain off excess fat. Add the rest of the ingredients, cover and cook at a simmer for 20-30 minutes. Serve on hamburger buns. This will never be as good without Connolly’s buns.
